WHAT WE DO

Glen Lake Camp has two major ministries. In the fall and spring, the facility is a retreat center serving churches and groups as a place to get away from distractions and focus on their relationship with God. In the Summer, Glen Lake Camp is the host to over 2,000 children, who come from all over Texas. You can read more about each of our ministries by clicking on the links below and exploring our website.

HISTORY

Glen Lake Camp & Retreat Center has been a ministry of the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1939. Our 80-acre campus is within the city limits of Glen Rose, Texas. The campus is setteled into a curve of the Paluxy River offering privacy and an increidble view from the highest point of the property. In the 1930's after renting other sites throughout the Central Texas area for summer camping experiences, Lakeview Camp in Glen Rose was purchased by the Central Texas Conference in November of 1939. At the suggestion of trustee John H. Siceloff, the facility was re-named Glen Lake Camp in February of 1940.

During the next few years, laity, ministers, and youth of the conference volunteered their labor and time to build cabins, a dining hall, and meeting buildings. World War II and the polio epidemic slowed progress, but in 1944 the camp debt was retired and Glen Lake was dedicated by Bishop A. Frank Smith.

Throughout the next three decades, many new additions were made to Glen Lake. In 1985, a new master plan was adopted by the Annual Conference to prepare Glen Lake for its new role in ministry for the next 50 years. Since that time, not only have many new, modern facilities been added, but also the staff and programming have been extensively expanded.
